The Philodendron Xanadu or Philodendron Winterbourn is easy to grow plant. .The Philodendron ‘Winterbourn’ was protected under Plant Breeder Rights in Australia.’ Then it was renamed ‘Xanadu’ by House Plants of Australia and released as their plant of the year in 1988.
Philodendron xanadu eventually forms dense clumps up to 1.5 metres tall by 2 metres wide. It has deeply dissected, lobed leaves up to 40 cm long by 30 cm wide glossy green leaves.

| POTTING MIX Philodendrons do best in loose, well-drained soil that is high in organic matter. They will grow in 100% sphagnum peat moss. Soilless mixtures such as peat-vermiculite or peat-perlite are also satisfactory. |
| WATER When growing philodendron plants, allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. The length of your index finger to the first knuckle is about an inch, so inserting your finger into the soil is a good way to check the moisture level. - Philodendron Xanadu has a high resistance to pests, is not known to be invasive and has a frost tolerance to about 30 degree Fahrenheit
how to propagate Philodendron Xanadu?
for your information ‘Xanadu’ is a patented variety, so propagation for sale is prohibited by law. However propagation for personal enjoyment is not prohibited.
A happy Xanadu will grow fairly quickly, forming many new stems and eventually becoming too big or top heavy for its pot. This allows you to propagate by division.
To propagate Xanadu:
- first you must remove the entire plant from its pot.
- then gently divide the root cluster into sections using your hands or a small shovel.
- after that you can re pot each section in its own container in well-draining potting soil
However to propagate Xanadu is quite hard because of the roots but you can try it. Nothing is impossible in gardening.

If you enjoy growing houseplants, especially philodendrons, then you may want to consider adding the Xanadu philodendron houseplant to your list. Xanadu philodendron care is simple and this larger plant makes a wonderful vertical accent in the home. Light – Philodendron ‘Xanadu’ likes a little more light than most philodendrons in order to maintain its compact growth habit. Bright, indirect light will suit this plant well, and even a little direct sun, especially morning sun, will be good for this plant. If you have this plant in too dark of a location, the stems will elongate a bit too much. However, too much direct sun can cause the foliage to turn a yellowish green color.
